About this reading room
Fiction & Fact Library is a small, lovingly-typeset web player for the world’s public-domain audiobooks. Every recording here was read aloud by a volunteer at LibriVox, whose mission is to record every book in the public domain. The accompanying texts come from Project Gutenberg.
The catalogue is fetched live from the
Internet Archive’s
librivoxaudio collection, which mirrors LibriVox and exposes a fast,
CORS-friendly search API. That means this entire site is completely client-side:
there is no server, no database, and no tracking. The pages are static HTML; the books
stream straight from the Archive to your browser.
Your data stays yours
Favorites and listening progress are stored in your browser’s localStorage.
They never leave this device and are never sent anywhere. Clear your browser data and they’re gone.
A note on the name
The public domain holds more than novels. Alongside fiction — the great stories, adventures and romances — sits a vast shelf of fact: history, philosophy, science, memoir and essays. The Fiction & Fact Library gathers both, so an afternoon can drift from Sherlock Holmes to The Art of War without leaving your chair.
